First Photo Shoot at the Studio

So, here it is, the studio.

I took my husband and the dogs there today, to see the finished area. The photo below gives the impression of a narrower room than it actually is. But you get the idea.

The dogs exploring the studio

Now that the room is ready to use, I tried a selection of shots with the dogs. My aim is to build up a supplementary portfolio showing potential customers the sort of pictures which might be achieved in the studio set up.

When I began looking for a studio space, one of the attractions of this particular unit was the amount of daylight falling into the area. Studio lights can be used to create some dramatic effects, but my personal preference is to use natural light whenever possible. I’ve hung a pair of light grey net curtains in front of the large window, to act as a diffuser and take the edge off any glare from the daylight.

Another attraction of the unit was the flexibility of the working space. My backdrops can be set up across the width of the room, or along one of the walls. This means I can catch the light from various different aspects, depending on the mood I wish to convey in the images.

A few shots from today follow, taken using a low aperture and natural light.
