Privacy Policy

This page sets out more information about the data that you provide when you visit and engage with my blog, at www.thephotographersway.org.

Personal data

This site collects personal data to improve your experience as a site user.

This includes:

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site, the site collects the data from the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymised string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to confirm whether or not you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available at: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public alongside your comment. Note that this only applies if you use Gravatar; if you don’t, your comment will be allocated a default profile picture.

Media

Any images which I upload to the website, do not include embedded location data (EXIF GPS). If you provide me with an image from the site, please ensure that embedded location information is removed. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Embedded content from other websites

Posts on this site may include embedded content (videos, images, and articles, for example). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracing your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Analytics

I sometimes use anonymous data to help me to understand my audience to enable me to work towards keeping content relevant to visitors. This may include information on approximate location (for example, country), time of use, or where you clicked through from (for example a search engine or social media page). Occasionally, information may be shared in its broad form with third parties. For example, X number of readers are based in the UK.

Who I share your data with

As above, broad demographic data may be shared with third parties to tailor products, services or experiences written about on this site. However, I will never pass your email address, location (beyond country) or any other contact information to any third party organisations without your express permission.

How long I retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely.

For people that subscribe to my blog, I also store the personal information that you provide in order to send out an email alert for new posts. You can unsubscribe from this at any point either on the email sent or by contacting me directly.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data which is held about you, including any data you have provided. You can also request that any personal data held about you is erased. This does not include any data I am obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Finally

I use the internet too, and understand how important privacy and security are. I take your privacy and security very seriously. This policy and my site are reviewed on a regular basis to ensure that any data held is protected. I subscribe to the blog too, to monitor the way in which my own information is held and used.

I am happy to answer questions on any of the above information. You may contact me using the form here.
