Questions

A reflective post to begin the year. Just two sets of questions. There’s no need to answer, but read through, and ponder on them to see the important point being made.
[Note that the exercise is often – incorrectly – attributed to Charles Schulz, the creator of the ‘Peanuts’ comic strip. Nobody is certain who actually created the questions originally, and I’ve edited them to reflect the (mainly) UK-based readership of this blog.]

Questions – First Set

  1. Name the five wealthiest people in the world.
  2. Name the last five Premier League players of the season.
  3. Name the last five winners of the Eurovision song contest.
  4. Name ten people who have won the Nobel or Pulitzer Prize.
  5. Name the last half dozen Academy Award winners for best film.
  6. Name the last decade’s worth of Wimbledon winners.
How did you do? Although I could hazard a guess at some answers, I cannot answer all six questions definitively. The point is, none of us remember the headliners of yesterday. That’s not to diminish their efforts or achievements, but life moves on. Awards are forgotten. Certificates filed.
Here’s the second part of the quiz …

Questions – Second Set

  1. List a few teachers who aided your journey through school.
  2. Name three friends who helped you during a difficult time.

These two are people I can laugh with over nothing until our sides ache, and tears roll. We’ve been friends for almost ten years (photos are about seven years apart), and we have each others’ backs. Their names would crop up more than once in answering this set of questions.
  3. Name five people who have taught you something worthwhile.
  4. Think of a few people who have made you feel appreciated and special.
  5. Think of five people you enjoy spending time with.
These questions are much easier. I could name several people for each … some names would pop up for more than one answer.
My mum and sisters would certainly crop up for more than one of the answers. My dad too, although writing this post I realise I have very few pictures of us together. Note to self – take more photos with Dad!
The people who make a difference in our lives are not those with the most qualifications, the most money, or the most awards. They simply are the ones who care the most. The ones who show up when we have a need, expecting nothing in return. Sometimes it feels hard to meet these people. But answer the second set of questions, and find them within your responses.

I wish you all a very happy, and healthy 2024
