Review – Saal Digital Wall Art

I had the opportunity recently to review a piece of wall art for Saal Digital. I chose the image and style of picture, Saal paid for it in exchange for a review. In a previous post, I wrote about the photograph which I used for this and the reason for my selection.

Creating products using Saal Digital requires the download of a software design programme. This is free from the Saal website, where supporting tutorial videos also available. The download takes up a little over 13MB of memory and is quick to install.

The software runs very much like a website. The home page offers a menu of options including wall decors, photo gifts, and business products. Current promotions are also highlighted. I selected ‘wall decors’, and was taken to a list of available formats, from which I chose canvas. After deciding on the size and style of canvas, I arrived at the design page.

The Saal software allows you to upload files from your computer, or drag and drop. Having set the image, a number of editing tools are available. Using AutoLayout fits the picture to the canvas size, and you can then move the image within the frame. The software doesn’t allow you to move the picture outside the margins, so there is no risk of a white line cropping up in the final piece. A grid option is available which is helpful when aligning images. There is also an indicator of picture quality, which is a helpful guide as to whether the image will lose definition when enlarged. Overall, the software is very simple to use, and it’s easy to save work to return to.

After finishing the artwork, I moved through the checkout stage (PayPal and card payments are both accepted.) The only small improvement I’d suggest, is a reminder of what the various format options mean. I was asked, for example, whether I wanted to use a floating frame for my canvas. I could have selected this from the outset, at which point an explanation of floating frame was provided. At the end of the process, there didn’t appear to be any way of reminding me what the floating frame actually was. A minor point though.

Then it was simply a matter of waiting for delivery. This took just 5 days, and the finished product is superb. I was struck immediately by how true a representation it is of what I ordered. There has been no unexpected cropping, or colour changing. Crafted carefully and finished with precision, the wall decor has no splinters or loose edges. It is lightweight enough to hang easily, but does not compromise on quality.

Would I recommend Saal Digital? Absolutely. The software is user friendly, a wide range of print options are available, and the end product is excellent. Naturally, you pay a bit extra for such a professional service, but cheaper options can look and feel cheap compared to Saal. It really is worth paying a bit more for a lot more in terms of quality. My thanks to the team at Saal for the opportunity to review their product.
